December 2014 Reading List

It's going to be a busy month.  Between the holiday preparations, shopping, parties and longer nights, I'm sure we would all need some quiet time to stay sane.

If you are a big reader like me, a good book will always help me calm down and lower my stress levels.  For this month, I chose books which not only inspire but give me new ideas for the coming new year.

Me, Inc.: Build an Army of One, Unleash Your Inner Rock God, Win in Life and Business

This book by Gene Simmons is not only enlightening and amusing. It's also filled with practical and most of all honest tips.  Just in time for 2015's New Year's resolutions.

L.A. Son: My Life, My City, My Food

This cookbook by Roy Choi is not only filled with easy to follow recipes, it also has tons of real life lessons he learned along the way.  An inspiring story of hard work, dedication and crazy good food.

Born Round: The Secret History of a Full-time Eater

This memoir by a respected food critic gives a new perspective on food and weight issues.  I can't wait to have a 2 hour undisturbed date with this book.

This book by Daphne Oz contains easy to prepare and healthy recipes, entertaining ideas and tips for modern living.

There you have it my friends.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I really would love to finish all of these books this month.

How about you?  What's on you reading list?

October 2014 Reading List

As the temperature starts to cool down and the nights get longer, there's nothing more relaxing than curling on the couch with a nice book.  Do you agree?

For this month, I decided to ask for recommendations (special mention to my Librarian friends). Guess what?  I have not one but two heart warming novels in the list which I hope to finish in 30 days.  Wish me luck.

The Daniel Plan: 40 Days to a Healthier Life by Rick Warren, Daniel Amen and Mark Hyman
             - A weight loss plan with inspirations from the Bible.  Not only is it filled with recipes but with emotional support as well.

Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok

       - A novel about the challenges of living in America from the eyes of young Asian girl.

We Are Called to Rise by Laura McBride
         - Described as "A book that will break your heart and put it back again."  I can't wait to read this novel about a child's fate and family.

         - Of course, I can't pass another gluten free cookbook.  Though most of the recipes aren't suitable for my multiple allergic kids, it is always nice to look at pictures and get inspired.

How about you?  What are you reading now?

September 2014 Reading List

Goodness!  I just realized that we are almost on the half way mark of the month.  With the new school routine slowly settling in, I'm grabbing the opportunity to sneak in some for me time.  After all a good book is always relaxing right?

Here are the books I have on hand right now.

by Kathleen Flinn.  - I'm currently into novels with recipes.  This one has all American family recipes.

The Allergy-Free Pantry: Make Your Own Staples, Snacks, and More Without Wheat, Gluten, Dairy, Eggs, Soy or Nuts by Colette Martin  - I always challenge myself to make food from scratch.  This book seems to have some shortcuts we food allergy moms need.

Diary of a Mad Diva by Joan Rivers - I have to say, I'm a fan of this funny and legendary woman. Though I haven't read any of book she had written, it's never too late to start right?

The Paleo Kitchen: Finding Primal Joy in Modern Cooking by Juli Bauer & George Bryant.  - What more can I say?  I always find cookbooks with beautiful pictures really enticing.

Have you read any of these books?  Did you like it?  Love to hear your thoughts.

July 2014 Reading List

My children's summer reading program has just started. Every year, all my kids look forward to this summer challenge by our town library.  Who wouldn't be?  For every five books a child reads, he or she will get to pick a prize.  Plus, there's also a contest among the three elementary schools in town.  The school with the most books read will get a party at the beginning of the school year.  Not to mention, the coveted bragging rights.

Since I don't want to be left out, I'm relaunching my monthly reading list.  It's a great excuse for me to sit back, relax and grab a good book as well.

If you are looking for some books, here's what I planned to read this month:

1. A guidebook for those who are always in a hurry and stressed.  The best part is that we can skip from one chapter to another without any guilt.

2. This motivational memoir sounds really entertaining. Plus each chapter was meant to be read with a cup of tea.  This means short chapters!

3. Cholesterol and how to lower it is my research project for the next few months. Thanks to the Mister, I'm feeding the nerd in me.

4. Lastly, my current obsession.  Plus I can't wait to know what's going to happen next season.

Have you read any of these books already?  With exceptions to the last one, (no party poopers and spoilers allowed okay)  I would love to hear your thoughts.  If you haven't, will you read these with me too?

        Happy Reading!
