Product Review: Krevare SoapSeat Promise "No More Soggy Soap!"

Do you watch infomercials?  Come on, admit it.  There's something in that 15-30 minute show that not only captures our attention.  Most of the time, it draws us in a trance like state and the next thing we know, we just spent our precious half hour and even a portion of our budget.  Sounds familiar?

One of the reasons why I think an infomercial has that much power on us is that it shows us how ordinary things can be re- invented and solve common everyday problems.  With a little design change, the new product promises to make our lives easier and a whole lot better.

Speaking of innovative products, I would like to introduce you to Krevare Soapseat aka "The Perfect Soap Dish". Hmmm... I know what you're thinking. "Not another soap dish, again!" Well, let me tell you more about this unique 2 piece soap dish that was designed to answer the #1 dilemma most soap users encounter all the time  - soggy soap.  Am I getting you interested frugal people?

As I mentioned earlier, the SoapSeat by Krevare consists of two parts.  First is the removable tray which was constructed not only hold our favorite soap but to keep water from staying on the grates. The spout like, patent pending design quickly drains the excess liquids which allows the soap to actually dry in between uses.  Thus, NO MORE soggy or mushy soap!   Made with durable Eastman tritan copolyester plastic, the tray is designed for easy cleaning by hand and even dishwasher.

The second part of the system is the base that holds the soap tray.  It has two adjustable legs which can be customized for raised rim sinks and soaking tub edges.  The non slip "feet" hold the unit in place without damaging the finish of the counter top surfaces.  Plus, there are no exposed steel parts that can corrode or rust.

The Verdict

After trying the Krevare Soap set for week, I have to say that it did fulfill its promise of making our favorite soap last longer.  Water just slides through the crevices which helped prevent the soap from being submerged.  It even made the soap dry in between uses.

Since there are no soapy water constantly running on the side of our bathroom sink and tub, I also noticed that there is no thick soap scum that accumulates on the wall of the tub and sink.  This made clean up a lot easier.

The product also instantly matched my bathroom decor.  Though the material is made of plastic, it was not flimsy or cheap looking.  In fact, it can pass as a pricey porcelain or ceramic.  I love that it looks great and I don't have to worry that the kids will accidentally break it.

Not only is it a functional and pretty addition to the any sink or tub, it also saves me money in the long run.  Who knew a soap dish can get that better?

Getting excited to try your own Krevare Soapseat?  So far, it's not yet available in stores.  You could however support it on Kickstarter.  By being a Backer of this project, you will not only help it become available in stores, you'll also get your very own SoapSeat for 30% off the retail price.  Isn't that sweet?  Head on to their project page now.  Your support is greatly needed and appreciated.

         What are you waiting for?

Friday Freebies: Managing Household Clutter Ebooks

In a few hours, my children will be officially on summer vacation.  That means they will be bringing books, papers, goodies bags, souvenirs and what-else-you-can-think-of home. Yup, they ended quite late.

Over the years, I have learned that our schedule is way crazier during the summer break.  The warm weather and time spent outdoors equates to additional laundry.  Then there's this thing called bottomless pit.  I don't know about you but every time the kids are home, all the food in the fridge and pantry seems to miraculously disappear within 2 to 3 days.

Though spending more time with my gang is always exciting and fun, it always comes with a price.  The first to suffer is our house.  I can see it now -- piles of paper to be sorted out, towers of laundry and constant food preparations.

Before you we drive ourselves crazy, I would like to share with you the free ebooks I found today.  Though I haven't read all of them yet, I saw some excellent tips on how to stay on top of clutter and household cleaning short cuts.

I'm sure you will also find these books handy not only this summer but all year round.

     Happy organizing!

Freebies: Tips on How to Clean your Home Faster Ebooks

Yesterday was the first day of CCD for three of my children.  Boy! I just had a reality kick on what my whole year will be. For those who have after school activities during the middle of the week, you absolutely know what I mean right?

In my house for instance, papers have already piled up.  Why do schools have to send in so much?  Then there's the clothes chaos.  Thanks to the unpredictable fall temperature, both summer and winter outfits are everywhere.

With all the daily commotion, for most of us, home cleaning and upkeep are often left at the bottom of the list.  If you or your kids have seasonal allergies though,  it is essential that we keep our house as allergen free as possible.  Sad to say but the only way to do that is to be on top of our least favorite chore.

Do you need more inspiration? Then check out what I found today. Three E-books filled with tips to help us clean the house faster.  Isn't that cool?  Best part, it's free to download now.

Leftover Rice to Awesome Fried Rice

Growing up in an Asian household, I was trained to respect food especially rice.  I can still remember the countless occasions my grandmother would tell me stories about the life cycle of rice. Whenever I refuse to finish the last morsel on my plate, she will make sure I will understand how much time, hard work, prayer, sacrifice and even tears shed for a cup of rice.

You know what?  Her efforts paid off, big time.  I rarely throw away rice.  What can I say? It just hurts my feelings! So, what then do I do with all the leftovers?  Fried Rice!

Okay, I'm getting the secret out of the box now.  Since I get a lot of questions from my friends about their fried rice being too mushy and even sticky, I have to share with you what I learned from my grandma. The best way to get that familiar texture of fried rice from Asian restaurants and even take-outs is to use day or even days old cold steamed rice.

By now, you must have seen that my family eats steamed rice everyday.  If there is a cup or more left, I put it in an airtight container and store it in the freezer until I have enough to serve six persons. In my experience, it can be frozen for a good month or two.

When it is time to make some fried rice, I just defrost the rice in the refrigerator overnight or in the microwave.  Then using your hands, mash the rice to remove the lumps. Don't remove the water.  Now you have prepared the perfect type of rice to make some fried rice.

Below is the recipe for a basic Garlic Fried Rice.  You can add whatever cooked vegetables or meat on hand to kick it up a notch.  Possibilities are endless so be creative.

Have a great week Frugalista Moms!

Ingredients:

4 cups cooled cooked steamed rice
2 Tbs. canola oil
4 Tbs. garlic chopped
1/2 tsp. sea salt

1. Prepare your leftover rice. Make sure it is properly defrosted. Set aside.
2. Preheat a big sauté pan or wok.
3. Slowly cook the garlic in oil until light brown.  Be extra careful not to burn it. Remove the garlic and set aside.
4. In the same pan with the garlic oil, put the prepared rice and stir fry.
5. Stir in 3 minute intervals.  Make sure you scrape the bottom to prevent the rice from sticking and burning.
6. Season with salt.
7. Cook for 15 - 20 minutes or until the rice is well heated through.
8. Transfer rice to a serving platter and top with the reserved garlic.

Note: If you are adding other ingredients like vegetables and meat (chicken strips, ham, sausage), do it after  minutes of stir frying.
